Arkansas folks speak up.........

Add some acv/mothers or electrolytes to her water to give her a boost. Sounds like you've done a pretty thorough job and the rest is just keeping the t.a.o. on it and watching her. If she continues to get eggbound the best thing may be to cull so she doesn't suffer. Good luck!

Comb being dark tonight. I hate to have to cull her. But I'm not sure what to do next. I am keeping her crate covered to slow egg production as well. This is how she looked when I found her.

Looks and sounds gross but I always heard that maggots will only eat dead tissue, so maybe it would have been helpful to the hen to leave them? Also, I would think you will have to try to push that prolapsed vent back into her ater a thorough rinse with saline. At least, that's what I see all the vets on tv do with prolapsed vents on other animals. :)

Never had the maggot issue or dealt with impaction but we did have a girl prolapse. We cleaned hands well and then gently pushed it back in and then coated inside and out with Preparation H. Kept her separate and checked her and re-applied as needed. She recovered but I don't think she was that severe. We like to give yogurt and pedialite for most any ailment as well.

Good luck.

Thank yoy everyone for your helpful information. Today there were no maggots. I was also able to remove the last of the necraudic tissue. She is still eating and drinking, pooping and layed an egg today. Swelling is getting better.

One of my favorite bantams had a prolapse vent last spring. I washed her and reinserted the prolapse. Then I put a little bit of a peroration H inside to shrink the vent back down. I had to do this twice to her. I kept her in the house for 2 weeks to make sure she was ok. She totally took over our bathroom. Found her perched on the shower, the sink, etc. She now is very healthy and a sweetheart. Hope this helps.

Hello!
I haven't been on here in forever. Anyone interested in some Welsh Harlequins? I have a trio (one drake two hens) and our dog keeps going after them so for their welfare I'm looking to rehome them. I'm asking $40 for them and they come with a 40 lb bag that is at least 1/2 full. I paid $30 for just a pair and they are all under a year. One hasn't started laying yet, the other is either done for the season or taking a break (she already went broody at around 8 months). She was laying around 5/week though!

I'm located in Sherwood. I would also be interested in dong a partial trade for some silkies (hens). One of our hens died yesterday (no idea why, she was laying around more than usual but still eating and drinking and no visible issues), so we have one rooster and one hen!
