Arkansas folks speak up.........

I don't really know what I want. We just hatched some bantam mixes from a friend and ended up with one silkie mix. Waiting on our 4 pekin-black Swedish mix ducks to hatch next week. Did my last candling tonight and boy, were they active. Don't know what I'm gonna do with them or the banties. If I'm gonna have lots of chickens and ducks I wanna make sure it's what I want.
Splash Silkies are just the cutest things! Chickens are just a hobby now, but in the next year or two I'm hoping to buy a new place with some acreage then I'll be farming.

We kinda have acreage now. It's my grandparents property and we help them out as we can. My grandmother has kept chickens for as long as I can remember. We garden, also and last summer I taught myself to can. So we are well on our way of our homesteading journey.

If you can heat water, fill bags with warm water to try to keep the temperature up. At this stage it doesn't have to be perfect, a little low is OK, but try real hard to not get them too hot. Hot is more dangerous.

That's a challenge. Good luck!

I don't think we have to worry about hot at all! Lol. My chicks that hatched last week are really ticked that their brooder light is out, but I suspect they will be ok.

I had a power outage with my last hatch. Luckily my car has a power plug so I ran a long power cord to the car and let it idol in the driveway. Our power was out for an unknown time as I came home from work and discovered it. It came back on about an hour and a half after I plugged them up to the car. I ended up with a decent hatch.

We've got power!

Lost power again about 20 minutes ago. 4 of our 6 duck eggs have externally pipped and are peeping. I have a feeling it will be awhile
Before we get power again. Lots of folks without electricity and limbs are falling and cracking. Had one hit the duck pen but it didn't damage the fence, thankfully.
