Hello and welcome to the Arkansas Thread.
I live in Mabelvale, but was originally from south of Arkadrlphia, from Prescott.

Congratulations on the new chicks.

I have mostly Naked Necks here. What is not NN will produce some of them for me then will be sold.

Hello I'm just west of Fayetteville in Wheeler...

I'm new to chickens and have a few questions for anyone with the time to answer...

I have 8 pullets that are approximately 8 weeks old (ordered from a hatchery) I have 4 more started pullets coming (16-20wks old from a hatchery) this week... Any suggestions on what is the best way to add them to my flock?
Also I have an opportunity to add a rooster to my flock for protection etc (healthy bird from my dads flock)... Should I add him at the same time with the others or before the others or wait until the pullets have worked it out between themselves or not at all? One of my thoughts is maybe he could make things go smoother and bring order to the group since he will be the only rooster.

I'm new to this and appreciate any input and can take constructive criticism etc.

My current flock of 8 have been allowed out of the run for the past few evenings (supervised by myself). But this is why I want a rooster to help me extend their free ranging time etc... I understand I'll need to coop train the new ones and the rooster as I have the current flock. But my ultimate goal is to allow them access to leave the coop and run during the day...

Integrating chickens...... I just put in three or four at a time. I'd add tge rooster at tge sane time as tge new hens.

It's possible the older ones may pick or harass the younger ones. They are more likely to pick on each other until the pecking order is re-established since they are in new territory. A rooster is not going to stop that. It's just going to happen. My concern would be for the younger ones.
I think the best way is for both the flocks to spend time next door to each other looking through a fence. If that's not an option, what I would do is give the youngest birds the pen and then only introduce one or two of the older birds into the young ones pen. The older birds are going to be too concerned with getting back to their flock to bother the younger ones much. Plus the younger ones will have the numbers even if they don't have the size. After a few days when they are settled in, introduce a couple of more. The older ones will be pecking on the other older ones and may not pay much attention to the youngsters. The youngsters will be smart enough not to start any fights, you just need to keep an eye on any trouble birds.
I'd wait til the flock is all settled in, getting along and stress levels have gone down before introducing the rooster. In other words, wait a couple of weeks later.
