Hey guys! Just wanted to check in. I'll be flying in to Arkansas in two weeks now for my externship at Tyson. I'm so excited! I heard it's a nice time or year to visit and I'll get to see lots of the state because we'll be on the road quite a bit.

The leaves are just starting to turn up in this corner. Two weeks might be in time to catchy them at their best, though with this year’s weather they may not be as glorious as usual. Still it will be a nice time.

The leaves are still pretty green here where I live. The sumac is turning and maybe a few maples but otherwise it is mostly green. May a couple of more weeks of cool nights will make a big difference.

A neighbor lady gave my son the cutest little bantam last night. I've never seen such a small chicken. She's suppose to be laying and she had no idea how old she is. I will try to get a picture of her (hen not the neighbor). I have her in a cage so my bunch can get use to her. I tried talking my son out of it until I saw her and then I couldn't resist. That darn chicken math coming bath to bite me, lol.

I tried to download a picture but I don't know where it went, lol. Where are all ya'll? I guess everyone is getting winter preparations ready. This thread has been kind of slow the last few days. Speaking of weather, boy howdy it's been warm here.

Been busy at work. My hens have gone downhill on their laying. It all my fault though, my work schedule had me in and out at all different times so it's hard for me to be able to feed and care for them myself. I had my son ( he's now 31 and it's hard to boss him around anymore), to do my feeding and egg gathering. I don't think he's been feeding them or not feeding them the proper amount, they were doing fine until last week when they dropped production from 13/14 a day to 3/4 a day if I'm lucky.

I'm trying to get back to the chores myself.

Mine have stopped. It just looks like a feather storm around the coop. Older ones are molting and so far none of my pullets are laying. It might be an egg less winter.

I have a bunch of pullets just starting to lay. I got 13 eggs yesterday, the most all year. Some of my older hens are molting but even a couple of them are still laying. Most of these are coming from my second hatch this spring when I got 5 cockerels and 14 pullets. Nine of these pullets are laying almost daily. Last year was an egg-less winter, the pullets I had didn’t start laying until after the New Year. It’s amazing how much it can swing one year to the next. I should be getting eggs all winter.
