I got my garde tilled yesterday in the hopes it would dry out some. I also went and got a truck load of compown the road to put in there, will need about 5 more loads before its all done (big garden). I am even downsizing the garden this year... too much work and not enough time with the little one here now and all.

Chicky, thanks for the eggs again, I have them in the bator now. In 21 days we will have more fuzzy butts running around the yard. I can't wait. Hope your boy got to go home this afternoon. Also hope he is feeling better.

Looks like I'll be tilling our garden myself this year! Perhaps...I've never done the tilling before. My husband is geeked out over a regional pool tournament that he's playing in next weekend and if I don't get it done soon, things will go in late.

Good luck on those eggs Hunts! Everyone that I've put in my bator is developing. Don't toss any unless they go stinky! Those dark eggs will fool you when you candle them. Rotten chickens! I came home and found your last two of the dozen sitting pretty in the nest. I think once we get some real spring weather, they'll be throwing them at me like dodgeballs.

Tala just came and got my 3 cuckoo maran chicks from the brooder and I think the two left are glad those noisy little peepers are out! LOL

Thanks for the concerns for my Robs too. He's doing awesome. I'm a little worried for that nerve block to wear off, but he was prescribed some pretty good pain meds. He'll be cuckoo as the marans, but hopefully pain free. I'm just so glad to be done and back home.

ETA: If anyone out there is interested, I have a 7 week old cuckoo maran cockeral up for grabs. He's beautiful, sweet and feather legged. I'd keep him, but his daddy might whoop his tailfeathers.

My dogs who leave adult chickens alone, would swallow a chick whole so they were VERY interested in what I was doing! lol

I got Strawberries and Cauliflower planted yesterday. We are having to hand till the garden because our tiller won't start. I got a 2x4 spot done yeaterday for my onions and Im waiting on my beans to sprout. We mixed in some potting soil towards to top. The chickens wanted soooo bad to come out in play. I dug up some grubby worm thingys and chickens loved them.

Oh nooo...I am really worried about this garden vs. ranging chickens dilemma. They'd hop any short fence I put around it!

For the 1st time in my life I am comtemplating either putting up a 4 foot fence around the garden (~150' perimeter), or just not let the chickens out of their pen. That is the real question out here. Although i am about to double the size of their run next week (I think).

My garnden significantly cuts my grocery bill down for the entire year since we can/freeze tomatoes, green beens, okra, squash, zuchinni, peas... and the list keeps on going, and can't run the risk of the feathered people ruining it for my baby's momma.

Hopefully I will get the early stuff in tomorrow or sometime this week.
