hey folks, someone has a post on fayetville craigslist wanting to know if anyone is interested in a poultry auction around siloam spings. he is asking people that would be interested to respond. if you are in the area you might have a look and let him know if you are interested.

Oh dear, I didn't realize how cold it was going to get last night. I put some young'uns in the outside brooder yesterday. I sure hope they're ok.

By the way, did anyone else feel the earthquake night before last? I woke up to one big shake and the guineas all hollering and flying down from the rafters. Most of them didn't go back up there to roost last night. I wonder where they roosted? Sure am glad it was the noisy ones that left!

I need a young pullet. I had two young pullets and one of them died. Now Liver, bantam cochin, is lonely for a friend. Anyone have any pullets between 8 weeks to five months? I prefer bantam but am open to standard if you think they wouldn't beat up on poor Liver. I am in Fayetteville (technically I am in Australia at the moment for another 4 bloody weeks but my family is home and could come buy the chicken). I just absolutely hate it that she is so lonely. Thanks ahead of time!

Hello!

My family and I currently live in Colorado, but my husband was just offered a job in Bentonville. Can anyone tell me about the town/area? How are the schools? What are the chicken laws? If you work in Bentonville, do you have to live in Bentonville, or are there other towns close enough to commute?

I think we are going to be making a trip in a few weeks to check it out, but I'd like to hear what you guys have to say! Feel free to PM me too.

Thank you for you help... I've never lived outside of CO.

Bentonville itself has a population of around 35,000. This area in Northwest Arkansas has around 440,000 total population so you can get reasonable health care and it has many other perks of a decent sized city. Tulsa is only a couple of hours away and that is a really big city. The larger cities here are Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers and Bentonville, but there are a lot of small towns and cities around, so no, you do not have to live in Bentonville. Different cities have different characters. Fayetteville is the more LA-Di-Da progressive place, Springdale is more blue-collar, Bentonville is corporate Walmart, and Rogers is just Rogers. This is all relative. Fayetteville is "progressive" compared to the others but is not a Boulder. And if you want "country", you can find that within easy driving distance.

The only place I know anything about chicken laws is tthe City of Fayetteville. There you can keep no more than 4 and they have to be hens. I don't have a clue what the laws are in the other places around. I'm in unincorporated Washington County so I don't have any restrictions.

I am not near there but always heard good things about it and the school system. We homeschool though. That area of the state (Fayetteville/Bentonville) have more homeschoolers than the rest of the state combined interestingly... I think some of that is because of allthe 'free thinkers' who seem to live up that way. But back to your question. The schools in that part are usually considered very good and pretty innovative since the University of Arkansas is in Fayetteville and has lots of influence. WalMart is based in Bentonville so it also has a lot of money invested in the community and in the schools. There are lots of small towns in the area close enough to commute as well. I have cousins in Fayetteville and the love the area and love their dds school. The mountains there are fabulous - although not as large as those in CO I am sure.
