Arkansas Meet-Ups, Swaps and Such

I already have a couple that look like they started molting.   I know one isn't laying.  I've never seen them molt this early.

I haven't either. These are a local hatchery that had these so I figure they were fall/winter hatches do therefore they molt a little earlier than normal. That's just a guess because most that molt in the fall/winter are usually spring chicks.

My daughter works in dermatology.  Don't use peroxide.  It kills healthy tissue. 
Chickens can heal from some nasty wounds.  Clean it with sterile water, you can put some neosporin on it, the kind without the numbing agent, or just get some wound spray from the farm store.  I've used a product called WonderDust on scalp wounds before.  It scabs it up (will turn black) and will keep it from getting infected and full of flies.  It will heal, will just take time.

As far as Marble goes, it shows up on google maps as Marble, just east of Huntsville on Hwy 412.  I searched for this Haskins you mentioned and can't find it.  Unless they rebuilt the auction place, I don't see how Marble can hold 400 people.  It's a small place, right on the highway.  No way it holds that many people.  I think they have auctions every Saturday.  I only went once a couple of years ago.l
Where is this Haskins?  Is that the city name or auction house name?  I may be interested in that one.

I went there today. Your right, it couldn't hold 400 at one time. They must have counted the furniture auction across the drive also. I got the name of the town wrong. Marble is outside Huntsville,AR. I had good time and learned a lot about the going price for things and the auctioneers lingo. I'll have to be careful not to bid "$ x 10" instead of "$ a lot". I needed cages and ended up holding out for guineas... That I was out bid on. So brought home nothing but education for next time. I'd love to see you there Mrs. BB.

Marble is outside Huntsville,AR. I had good time and learned a lot about the going price for things and the auctioneers lingo. I'll have to be careful not to bid "$ x 10" instead of "$ a lot". Do they sell chickens and such as a lot? I've never been to one that will sell them by lots always by the head.

I think they do. I had a trio in one cage and several cockerels in another. What was in the cages were sold as a group unless for some reason a bidder request to bid on some separately. Things may have changed under new ownership, idk. I think I heard the commission went up to 20%.
They sell anything there. They were selling guinea pigs, I think I even remember a pair of cockatiels for sale and even fertile eggs. Someone had some pyrennes pups out in their truck for sale too.

Well, if I can't sell some of these cockerels I have, I may very well end up there in a couple of weeks. I have to get my flock reduced too.

You r right Mrs.BB. but they can't sell eggs or fertile eggs any longer. They test every fowel for .33 cents. And 20% commission...that's it.

Must be something they decided to do amongst themselves at the auction there.

We had plenty of hatching eggs at ours here, and the state man was in attendance and saw it all and never said anything about it.

They were going pretty cheap too, set of turkey eggs 30 at a time were going for $4.00 & $5.00. There were some going a bit higher on certain breeds.
Chicken hatching eggs were $2.00 and $3.00 a flat if 30.

There's a new breeder around our area trying to get a monthly swap set up. Not sure how it's gonna go, though.

We got a show coming in september, the show earlier this year was pretty good from what i heard. might try and make this one. Lots of new long time breeders moved in, so we're eager to see what breeds they show off.
