Arsenic found in chicken meat

Quote:
From the MSDS: 4-Hydroxy-3-nitrobenzenearsonic acid, 4-Hydroxy-3-nitrophenylarsonic acid; Roxarsone; 3-Nitro-4-hydroxyphenylarsonic acid; nitrophenolarsonic acid.

Roxarsone is the trade name and the most likely to show up on the label.

I think this stuff has been mostly phased out of retail chicken feeds; the coccidiostat I see most often is Amprolium. But I'm in California...

I am in california too. Again, thank you. I will write these down and sit down and check all my labels. I am raising chickens at home to eat healthier...sigh

You're welcome! Just keep in mind, the actual health risk of eating chicken meat that was fed Roxarsone is extremely small; it's really the environment around the broiler farms that is most affected. See post #26 in this thread.

Layers are a different matter, you really don't want arsenic in layer feed because it may concentrate in the eggs. The Utah case was a real scare, because arsenic was not added to the feed - so would not show up on the label - the mill doesn't use arsenic in any of its formulas - last I checked they were still trying to figure out how the stuff got into the feed.
