I rate articles exactly how I see them, regardless of who the author is... if the article is misinformation, I won't even rate it and will and HAVE commented on it reflecting that...

Articles should be factually based, or experience based, depending on the content... and while I like to see members participating by writing articles, I do think there should be a review board before allowing them to be posted within the Learning Center... allowing misinformative articles to be posted just causes further confusion and leads to more posts saying "but I read that here on BYC"...

Also, I feel reviews of breeds should only be allowed to be done by members who have actually raised or had said breed... I have seen way too many lately being reviewed on hearsay rather than real hands on experiences and facts...

JMO...

I have these same exact opinions.
THANK YOU!

It is a little embarrassing having the author seeing me rate it poor but if there is incorrect statements or information then I would rate it poor, you can't try to be friendly when there is incorrect information...But yes, as long as they are trying to help such as giving advice on how to keep cool or if someone is showing off their birds then yes I would 5 stars.. Because they have a nice flock and you don't have to be mean about it.

Oh, I agree on the ones just showing off their flock... and that would actually be fact based, lol... they have those birds... ;)

My comments were purely about articles written about specific issues or concerns... things written that are clearly untrue or based on unfounded 'rumors' or what someone 'heard' works...

There's never any reason to be mean, I agree... but if someone is asking for an honest evaluation of something, I can't help but give honest feedback...

I would feel mean giving them a bad rating if I knew they could see it :lau

I think it should be anonymous.

But Ravyn does make good points and I agree. When I first joined the site at like 14 or 15 I apparently made an article but I only discovered it when they moved the site. I apparently had 2, both complete gibberish, not real content, kind of just like a note or something or like I was trying to make a post? Idk. One was about my dog I think. My point is I didn't even know I made them and it's certainly not content (is it possible to delete?) So yes, I think there should be some sort of review process. Of course, we don't want censorship either so it's a dilemma. But something to prevent new users or 14 year olds from accidentally making articles lol

Same for reviews. I had no idea people reviewed without owning the breed ravyn. What is the point of that? How can you rate something if you have never had experience with the breed before? That's just stupid, no offense...

Anyway, I know some people say they will rate anyway or point out if it's incorrect but that brings up a good point... I think there is a polite way to point out misinformation (that maybe they don't even know is wrong) or say you don't like the article.... by commenting on said article with opinions or corrections or private messaging the user. I think that just giving a negative rating, especially one they can see, is kind of mean but at the very least just doesn't really serve any purpose. Like I said, they might not know that it's wrong or why you gave a bad review, so by commenting or messaging what's wrong rather than only leaving a review, you can give some constructive criticism and feedback at the same time. Just stars don't really mean much.

And I personally would be wondering why exactly they gave it a bad review.

So I think anonymous is best.

Either they don't see the ratings at all (that doesn't really serve a purpose or help them though) or they can only see the ratings and not WHO left them...

Even if they are not asking, per se, for the feed back they need to understand there will/can be negative feed back.

I think just the star ratings don't really serve much, if any, purpose so commenting or messaging them your opinions or critiques is more useful, at least imo :)

But....
The star ratings are there for a reason too.

Oh yeah no I know, sorry, I wasn't saying to do away with the star ratings completely or that someone's wrong for only leaving them, just that for me personally, they don't serve much purpose. I would rather know why they gave the rating they did and what I did wrong so I can fix it for next time, you know? Or so I could help my flock by not using misinformation etc.

But I don't write articles so
