Hi! I’m a new chicken owner, my rooster is about 3 months old but he is having trouble with his eyes. A few days ago i thought he was falling asleep standing up but he just couldn’t keep his one eye opened, 1 day later (currently) he is having trouble with both of his eyes and can only keep them open for so long, his eyes are red and sometimes have a white film over them. He is also having trouble standing up for long or eating and drinking, I fed him from a syringe earlier and then he started eating by himself again but he’s still weak. Any idea what this is or what I can do to help him? And if something is wrong will it spread to my other chickens, I currently have them separated.

Welcome To BYC

Can you post clear photos of him and his eyes?

Do you notice any other symptoms like sneezing, mucous from the nostrils, coughing, etc.?

General care for eyes is to rinse/clean the eyes with saline, remove any debris, crusts and/or pus from the eye, then put an ointment like Terramycin eye ointment into the eye.

I can see if I can get photos tomorrow. Sometimes he will start shaking randomly and his beak will open and then he will stop again, so I’m not really sure what it is because none of my chickens have done it before.

Apologies if I don’t know much, this is the first time something’s wrong with my chickens and I’m freaking out haha.

Severe lice infestation can cause extreme tiredness, head shaking, etc.. Birds can't sleep suring the night when the bugs are active and then just stand in one place and sleep randomly during the day. Just shooting in the dark though, we need pics.
