Ascites Draining

Oh! So I forgot, the girl who noticed it today thought she wasn’t able to move because on the tips of her toes she had solid poop balls stuck. She got rid of those and she still couldn’t walk so I would say the no leg use started yesterday

This quail is missing the tip of her right toe, it looks bloody too. And the other toes on her right foot look bruised as well. So this might well be the reason she does not want to walk at the moment.

Oh, so I believe it was when she was removing the poop balls is when the nail came off.
They are bloody because the poop was on her for so long and where do you see the bruising... They use this spray for wounds that when sprayed, it is a grey metallic color.

Maybe they were a little rough removing the poop balls? The nails coming off can be painful. She may improve over the next few days, but I would make sure she's eating/drinking. I don't have Quail, but have read that they can get stressed very easily when handled. Hopefully she'll come right.

Well, today is the day. It seems like my hen needs ascites draining. I want to hold it off but I think it is time.

Yesterday was day 5 of baytril. Should I restart it? And I will give her some electrolytes now and drain later in the day.

Personally, I would give the electrolytes, but wouldn't give any more Baytril, it should still be in her system.

How's the little Quail doing? I don't know much about them. I know they can sometimes bonk their head and that can cause some mobility issues. Maybe try giving her 1/4 tablet B-Complex and 400IU Vitamin E for 3-4 days to see if that helps.

The quail is alive and active. Not much leg use though. I made a thread in the quail section. Either tomorrow or the next day I can try that, I doubt it would hurt her. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/no-leg-use-in-quail.1505289/

So for this draining, how far away should I be from the old needle mark. She is still a mild puffy and a little green/brown like a bruise.

Alright, I decided it’s too soon. It’s hard to make the decision when it’s time but there is still some jiggle although it feels full. I don’t want to drain her too early so it will be tomorrow if she fills up more.
