Hello everyone I'm new to BYC just starting out raising some chickens. I went to Rural King and picked up 4 chicks. I went with 2 Asian Blue & 2 Barred Rock. I can't find much info on the Asian Blues does anyone have them and how are they for backyard raising. The 2 I have are very docile you can pick them up and they fall asleep in your hands. The 2 Barred Rocks are not so happy being picked up but we're working on all 4 of them. This is a picture of our runt

Hello and welcome to BYC - great that you have joined us and congrats on your new littles! I'm not an expert on breeds, but if you cannot find out much about them as a breed, then maybe they are a cross, that has been given that moniker by a particular hatchery

Welcome & Congratulations!

Sorry, I have not heard of Asian Blues until now but that could just be because I am in Australia and like Ken not an expert on breeds.

As you have already received links to some good starting points, I will just wish you all the best.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share more pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out

I'd like to know how it all worked out! I bought 1 (with a few other breeds) from Rural King this year, and she (I think it is a pullet) is so far my favorite because she is so friendly and curious. She is only about 7 weeks old in the pic, but she scares my Yorkie :). She is growing a lot larger than the others. She also seems like she likes to be the one looking out for the group of smaller chciks, and makes a call to run when big birds fly overhead.

I have a couple Asian chickens.I got them at Tractor Supply in American Canyon,Calif. They were all black as chicks. Now the 2 have gotten red feathers on their necks.I have to say these are the strangest looking birds. They are tall with stubby feather circling their legs.I will try to post a picot when they are grown up.
