Chickbea, The "easy start" feature winds the starter spring as you pull the rope, once you reach the end of the rope it releases and the spring unwinds to spin the engine. It's a pretty neat idea. I was going to buy one of the conversion kits to retrofit my 73 year old dad's chainsaw last year but found out it was about $200 to do it to his older model chainsaw. I'll keep starting it for him.
