I put two big bags of some damp conifer bark stuff in my chicken run today, then an hour later when I went to give them more food one of them was standing in the corner hunched over, despite running around earlier in the day. She then went to bed in the house (which is strange because she always sleeps on the roof of their house) and lay in the egg box with her eyes closed the whole time - she wouldn't even open them when I touched her head or anything. She is not gasping for air so far but she didn't want to eat or drink when I last checked her... I have now removed all of the bark just in case that was the problem. I researched the type of bark I used for use with chickens (it was some decorative bark for gardens) and a few sites said it can release harmful spores.
I'm not sure how old she is, but we've had her for over a year and I think she was already a couple years old then...
Could she really have contracted aspergillosis within 2 hours of being in contact with the bark??? What could I do?
EDIT: hello to anyone who is coming here from the future and looking for answers, I made a new thread about this topic here which might be more useful
