Aspiring Mountain Chicken Mama

Hey all, I've already taken so much information from these threads, so thank you!

I'll be getting 6 babies come the end of April (Orpingtons, Cochins, EE's and Ameraucaunas). I live in Mammoth Lakes in the Eastern Sierra mountains. If anyone else on here has experience with rearing chickens in the same area let me know!

We deal with pretty fierce winters but I plan on aggressively insulating.

My biggest predator concern is black bears, and reading everyone's comments on that issue I think I may resign to electric fencing.

Im open to all thoughts and shared experiences and am excited to be part of the BYC fam!
:welcome:frow it doesn't have to be fencing. I use electric wires. Nothing has gotten past them. They average 10,000+ volts. I have a quite powerful fence charger. It will hurt when touched but that is the idea. I want whatever touches the wires to know it and hurt so they won't mess with them again. Some people bait their wires. I never have but the predators know they're there. I think the adult predators teach their young that whatever is on the other side isn't worth getting zapped for. Good luck and have fun...
