Assisted hatch experts: I have a question the file didn’t answer.

Alright, I looked it back over and yep, the only time I advised to do anything after only 12 hours was 12 hours after a safety hole in a Call duck egg. Are you sure that's the one you read? There's another one out there that might say 12 hours. I find that one really confusing and hard to read, though, which is why I decided to write mine.

I actually wrote that one and don't know where I said 12 hours because that's much too short  I guess I'm gonna have to comb through and see where I wrote that and fix it.

When they pip in the small end, you actually need to allow up to 48 hours before assisting, because they never got to internally pip.
Ok sounds good.

The issue is opening the incubator. If I could open it I would just go ahead with the assist on the first one and wet the second obe, not worry abour the humidity.

At this point I have not opened the lid.

You can open the lid and it won't hurt anything with the other egg. But since it sounds like this chick is malpositioned and is in the wrong end of the egg, you probably don't need to assist yet.

Is your humidity gauge calibrated?

I would open the bator and candle the eggnow if I were you.

I too agree that 'lockdown' is overrated and you are obviously having trouble telling what exactly is going on with this first egg so look at it.

I don’t need to candle. The eggs are already open and the chicks are alive. Just not progressing.

It’s under the section about malposition.

I just took a look in that section and the only timeframe I can see that I gave is 30 to 48 hours for eggs like yours or the similar malpo of facing away from the air cell. Can you find and quote the 12 hour bit for me and paste it here? Sorry, not trying to be difficult, I just want to find it and fix it, and I can't find it.

Here:
After the “if the chick pipped the wrong end...”

So we are at the successful
Pip but no progress over 24 hours.
