At last! How to stop your rooster crowing - maybe

If you have more than 1 rooster in a pen, then they will compete. & Crowing contests are ridiculously annoying.

Or you end up with a choir, when they start at the very same note, like mine do.

If mine would wait until daylight, I'd be happier. This 3:30AM stuff is for the birds, not me.

Here are the options in summary

HOW TO KEEP YOUR ROOSTERS QUIET:

-Black out the bird's cage at night

-Put a muzzle and collar on the bird

-Put a hood or a sock with a hole over the bird's head, and cut out space for the beak and nose

-Soundproof your pens

Here are my initial thoughts on the quiet rooster tips

#1 - Our cockerels crow in the middle of the night

#2 - What kind of muzzle would stop a rooster crowing, while allowing him to eat, drink & breathe?

#3 - Are the beak and nose in a different place on Hawaiian chickens, doesn't a hole for one kinda provide a hole for the other?

#4 - I totally misread the last word and thought 'what good would that do ?', then I read it again properly and thought 'How?'. ( 'How?' would be appropriate to my original misinterpretation as well ).

#5 - What? Has this person had Xzibit 'Pimp their coop' and they have hydraulic lifters in the roof of their coop, and gleaming gold alloys on their chicken tractors

I know only one way to stop a rooster crowing, involving a machete, a block of wood and a barbeque.

It's too bad, I jumped on this page, thinking I could finally get a rooster, or two. Then -- WHAT?? Yup a hood, that'll help. Won't crow now. Wont' eat, drink, or cluck either.

I think stopping a rooster from crowing is a real not smart thing to do.. That is totally redonkulas and bordering inhumane. If you don't want a crowing rooster, don't own a rooster. Simple at that. Cook em up, or give them away, but don't try to keeping them from crowing.

That's like trying to get a hen to quit laying eggs because you don't like eggs... Say WHA?! Bizzare.

Some people want to keep their roosters. They may not have anyone to give them away to or don't have the heart to kill them. I'd consider a collar than caponization. We didn't want roosters but we ended up with two, that's one of the reasons why we're cautious about getting more. So it's not like trying to get a hen to quit laying eggs. Hens don't lay eggs everyday, but roosters crow everyday and all day.

There is a "No Crow" or "Crow Not" device advertised on Facebook (I could not find the link just now). It does not sound inhumane to me. It muffles the sound by not letting the roo totally inflate his throat and blow out all that air at once. They still crow, but more softly (and yeah, it sounds a little weird). It's better than the machete option if you want to keep roos in a suburban neighborhood. Just my two cents!

Too bad the suggestions don't work, I'd love to keep my roosters, but I can't have them in town - too noisy.
