AT&T to buy out T-Mobile...are you kidding me?

DH had AT&T through work several years back NEVER had a good signal, a few months into the contract, the company (we are talking a LARGE; no make that HUGE) company booted AT&T and went to Verizon. We rarely have signal problems. However, the larger they get, the less customer-friendly they are.

Things I want in a phone: good phone service, intuitive controls, good control of settings.

Things I would like to NOT have in a phone: music, social networking, apps that start on their own, voice commands that search first on google rather than in my phones stored data, any sort of required account other than the phone itself.

Dont want to cancel but hated the contract part. Had wonderful customer service outside of town near us. The ones here in town are the pits, and teenagers pushing to sell. We got turned off by their pushy sales tactics and shoving the contract before we even ask questions. This guy we got sold on, he NEVER once tried to push the sales contract, lets us ask him tons of questions (yes he did say we can buy out the contract for $250 but our rates will go up, ugh! for the usual servers fees and all that jazz). We did not want internet, music, web, GPS, etc. just the text and call only for emergencies and last minute relay shopping (like hubby getting off work and need him to pick up something from the store before heading home) and unlimited minutes on text but 700 min on voice calls. Mobile to mobile, unrestricted carrier. All of my relatives got Sprint and Verizon and each one of them have their good and bad days with them. And I am picky what kind of cell phone for my fat fingers, I have the Neon, not the Blackberry with tiny buttons. Enjoyed the cell phone LOL!

Went out of town and still have good reception to send out texts.

Too bad they don't have TTY services for AT&T but I do have a TTY set in the cell phone but I have to buy a portable TTY keyboard to call relay or doctor's office which WONT email or text me at all...it has its disadvantages with making appointments with one doctor but unknown for the rest of them.

I felt the same way when Cingular bought AT&T many years ago, which then was bought back by AT&T.

I have been reading about T-Mobile for about a year now, and the word in the business world for a long time has been that T-mobile is not going to be around much longer, as they have had some serious financial problems. I believe that from a business perspective, a buyout from AT&T is a good idea.

As an aside, I don't have AT&T anymore because our life has turned such that we can't afford them so we have Metro PCS. It's not available in all areas, but it's unlimited minutes, text, and web & is a flat rate that never goes up or down. I like that.

Agree. AT&T already owns SBC ... so they took over the DSL (and home phone) market here (resulting in even crappier service for me)... then they bought up Cingular so they own the people who gave up home phone to get away from SBC and/or ATT... now they wanna buy up T and suck those customers, who until now have quite purposely avoided signing up with them, into the fold.

Monopoly is an understatement... and they aren't even willing to settle for JUST the cellular systems... they want to control ALL communications and media... next I bet they target Time Warner.

Dunk... I think if that happened I'd settle for the ratburger...

The Taco Bell thing was a reference to that movie "The Demolition Man" Stallone is in the future an gets taken to dinner. The only place they eat at in the future is Taco Bell. Not the same as the current one. It's just that all restaurants have been merged in to one gigantic chain. Same thing that's happening to businesses worldwide.

Yep, I won't eat at Taco Bell. Nasty stuff.

The merger probably won't effect you one way or the other and may even improve your service just be glad you don't work for T-Mobile, if you did you'll probably be out of a job.
