At what age can silkies be sexed?

I know they are often unsexed at the hatcheries, and that they are hard to sex. How old do they need to be before it's somewhat reasonable to tell? Thanks.

I would have to say a good 4-5 months.

I didnt know for sure what mine were till they were around 5.5 months old.

I think it's when they start to crow or lay eggs.

I band mine and make notes along the way. Over time you will get better at it and know sooner. I have never had to wait until one crows but sometimes I wait to hear it crow or not to confirm my suspisions.

Althought a crowing 3 month old is a HUGE exception to the rule. On average, you wont be able to sex a Silkie until 5 to 6 months, sometimes maybe even longer.
