At what age did your rooster start crowing?

not sure. he came from a ranch that had over 30 different bantam breeds, so there's no way to know for sure. he's getting some nice red feathers on his back though....

@urbanchickmama,
what breed is he?
hes very pretty

our second rooster didn't start crowing until just recently.. he is about 7 months old. He has done his rooster "thing" for several months but doesn't crow very often - still a rasping imitation of a crow..lol. I think he is more timid since he is not the dominate roo at all. Any crowing is done on the opposite side of the yard from our number 1 rooster.

I am relatively new to chickens so I don't know for sure. But I would imagine a roosters desire to crow may or may not be influenced by the presence of another- more dominate Rooster.

Both of my grown roosters are Buff Orpingtons

I have an 11 week old light brahma that I have suspected of being a roo for several weeks because of the bigger size and red comb and wattles. The "crow" started a couple of weeks ago. Was one time of what sounded like a child crying (scared me to death because I thought it was either mine or the neighbor kids!). Then nothing for about two weeks. Another couple of "crying" episodes this time witnessed it sitting on a perch and responding to the neighbors roos. Then again nothing for another week or so and yesterday, several minutes of "crying" again as if answering the neighbors roos.

Is this a normal pattern as a rooster learns to crow? I know people have said they sound funny...that is very true!

We had an Andalusian that started crowing at five days old: "Pbbreepareep!" So did both of his sons. Precocious little stinkers.

Most of our other young roos start making noises like a flute being strangled at around 10-12 weeks old. It takes them a while to get it right, and they act pretty embarrassed about it: "Oh, gee whiz, that was not sexy at all. --Wasn't me! It was him, over there!"

I have two that are 8 weeks that started crowing the past couple days, and one that is 7 weeks that started crowing today. Luckily, so far they only crow when I roll their brooder outside and get it in place. They crow a bunch of times, and then once they get out of the brooder they stop crowing. Hopefully they keep that up. lol

Most of my roosters started to try to crow around 8 to 10 weeks. They sounded terrible at first but got better with practice.
