I need advice from my wonderful BYC friends. There must be a solution to my problem but I just can't think of it. Here is the short version.

March....2 strange dogs in my yard. One ran after me. Called police, filled out report and didn't give it much thought.
Last Sunday same dogs were back, this time running after my chickens. They were ranging for a while. I was with them. Gravely injured one and she died on my lap.
Animal control took report. Was very familiar with dogs. Animal control talked to owner but he said he won't pay the fine for dogs running loose again and property damage. I was OK with that. The law will take care of things by using 'proper' channels.

I'M NOT OK with the same dogs back in my yard today!! Called police again (they are terrific) because I want to put my faith in the police and let them handle it. My chickens are in a safe run and tomorrow I'm going to make it even safer.

I feel like I'm being punished! My husband and I have to go to court to say that the dogs killed my chicken. The dogs owner is claiming he is not guilty of the charges. If I want to go to small claims court ( it's the principle) I need copies of police reports etc. $3.00 for the first page of the report and $2.00 per page after that. $60.00 to file the papers and more money for a notary republic to have the sheriff serve the papers. I can add that money to the amount I am suing for but that's not the point.

I planned on critters like coons and opossoms and fox and fisher cats and coyote but not a neighbors dog!

I understand how Charles Bronson felt in Death Wish! I live in New Hampshire. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for letting me get this off my chest.

! I hate people like that! Take them to court and then shoot the dogs if they come back! Animal control dont want to do their job, file a complaint! URGH this makes me mad! I mean it's not the dogs fault but you have the right to protect your chickens.

Why can't animal control make them surrender the dogs? i mean here if you keep that up the po po is taking your dogs, giving you a fine and you don't pay....they will see you in court! Don't go you have a bench warrant~

so sorry i have had my next door dog kill some of my baby chicks. they came over after their kids told them. and said they were so sorry and wouldn't let him off the chain again.

What kind of dogs are these you are dealing with? Maybe you can re-home them on craigslist. It sounds like the people done care too much for the dogs. What did the police tell you to do for now, keep calling them? Its so sad for the animals when owners are so irresponsible

PurpleTree what did the police do when you called again today??? Is there a place you can enclose these dogs (without you getting bit) so you can then insist that Animal control come & get them???? Some times $$$$'s speak volumns for people & the neighbors having to go get the pooches might inspire them to keep them at home... & then also check the ordinances & if it's illegal to allow a dog to run free then they should be getting a ticket..... Video...

Had this same problem, with multiple neighbors. The most serious was a lab that kept coming over and killing chickens. I'd catch her every time, call the owners to pick her up, and explain that I was going to shoot the dog if she came back. She came back FIVE TIMES in 18 months. By the fifth pickup, I was totally ticked. I told the owner, who is otherwise a nice person, that this was the last straw. She promised that the dog would be in a kennel or at her side at all times. Two days later the dog was back, and this time she killed five birds.

That's when I lost my temper, and the dog lost its life. When I called the owner to tell her she had one less dog, she said "Well, you have to do what you have to do."

People like that shouldn't be allowed to own animals.
