atoms were floating around, doing their thing, combining to form molecules, which combine to form tangible matter, which combines in just the right way to make everything go boom

I wonder the same. And lets assume God did create atoms, now I wonder, who created god? And why? How? Where? When? How did God come to be?

There is more to the world and space than just us. Who knows what/how/whatever created the atoms that went boom. I don't know that we will ever know. Although the same goes for Christians, there is no rock solid proof that your religion is correct.. so
