Four was happily opening random crates and exploring when a blood-curdling screech sounded from outside the ship. She stared up at the ceiling, shocked by the sound. It sent shivers down her spine. She put the large magnet in a small backpack she had found in one of the crates and slung the backpack over her shoulders. Passing through the wall again, she gasped when she saw a massive hole in the roof. Outside were sounds that freaked her out, but she went out anyway.
She came outside, seeing the devastation that lay in front of her. Sounds of pounding footsteps sounded behind her, and she whirled around, seeing that a pair of monsters had already locked onto her as their target. One swung a claw at her head, but she only just managed to dodge it. In what seemed like slow-motion, a clipping of her hair slowly floated to the ground. She immediately started to run away from them, it was her only defense, but she knew it wouldn't last for very long. Speed wasn't her forte.
With the pair of monsters steadily gaining on her, she panicked to find a strategy. She then spotted a large section of some kind of metal. It had been peeled away from the ship, and it now stood vertically. She headed straight for it. She could use this peeled-metal wall to her advantage. Running up to the wall, she hurridly placed her hand on it. Her hand tingled, and she started to pass through the metal.
But not before one on the monsters had sunk it's claws into her backpack.
She pulled herself through, and was surprised to see the monster was also passing through. How? Then it occured to her. The backpack had just then passed through the wall with her. It was as if things that were touching her also density shifted when she did. Trying a last-ditch idea, she spun around rapidly before the monster was completely through the wall. It's claw lost it's grip on the backpack, and contact was broken.
As the monster's molecules returned to their natural state, it let out a sound somewhere between a roar and screech.
The monsters had the same weakness in density shifting.
The screeching sounds died down, and the monster died. It turned to a kind of black smoke, One that reminded her of the day she had found herself on the ship with the others. The smoke faded as quickly as it had come, but it left four gasping for air. It felt as though her lungs were on fire. Just as she wanted to drop to the ground in relief, she remembered the second monster. She started to run from the creature, but she wasn't fast enough to avoid the swipe of it's claw. It made a deep gash in her cheek, pain running through her like fire. Four went to pass through the wall again, hoping to use her trick again. But the monster had noticed her tactic.
As she passed through the wall, the monster ran to the other side of it and waited for her. She tried to get through quickly, but before she could come all the way through, the monster touched the wall next to her, and changed the density of the wall. Her hand became trapped, burning like fire. She screamed in pain, for it was the worst pain she had ever felt. The monster looked into her eyes. It's eyes flashed with a wicked gleam. Four tried to pull her hand out, but she couldn't density shift to escape. She was trapped, whether she liked it or not.
She desperately bent her free arm around into her backpack, pulling out the magnet. she hoped it would have some effect on the monster, or would be able to help her in some way. She held it up to the monster, but it had no effect. The monster let out a gleeful shriek, his eyes taunting her. It was as if the monster was laughing at her, entertained by her desperate attempts to escape or attack it. The monster raised it's claw, ready to strike. Four cringed, pulling her free arm into her chest, putting her head down, closing her eyes and holding her breath, preparing herself for the blow that would surely end her life.
