Attaching hardware cloth to wood with stapler gun?

I am having difficulties attaching hardware cloth to wood using a standard manual hand stapler gun made by Stanley. Either it jams or the staple won't go all the way in the wood. Would getting an electric stapler gun made by Ryobi Ryobi stapler gun from Home Depot provide better results? Or am I using the stapler gun in an incorrect manner? Am I supposed to lean my weight on the gun as I staple the hardware cloth? Also, the Stanley stapler gun keeps jamming.

That is the EXACT stapler we used to attach hardware cloth to our run and coop. It worked amazingly well. We had to turn the power down a bit otherwise it would actually break through the hardware cloth.

This is the stapler I use. I've had it for several years, it's been used for a LOT of projects, including fixing/repairing and putting up hardware cloth. It's been dropped, gotten rained on, been left outside, gotten muddy, stepped on, banged around and still works just fine.

Predators like raccoons are strong enough to rip out staples.
It is more work, but screws with fender washers are much stronger.

Exactly! I used screws and washers as well.

It's fine to hold the HC in place with those small staples but you need to go back over all the attachment points with screws and fender washers as mentioned or hammer in HD 3/4" poultry staples.

Those small staples are inadequate.

You need a fence stapler that you run off your air compressor.

Or the screws with fender washers that Dobie recommended.

Or you can screw a strip of wood over the hardware cloth. I had lots of strips of wood and odds and ends screws, so that was free for me.

I really like screws and fender washers as well. I use 3/16 1” fender washers every 5 inches on 1/2” hardware cloth. I sat there pushing the hardware cloth in as hard as I could and it wouldn’t budge. I like that the washers cover a little more surface area.

3KillerBs has the answer with the air gun stapler. I used 1” galvanized staples. The few times I screwed up, it was hard to remove them.
