About 2 weeks ago, a new neighbor from about a block away was here to look at the baby chicks. (He's planning on getting some chickens soon. He's had them before.) He's a "hefty fella" about 40 years old. He was wearing shorts and as soon as Oro Blanco, the rooster, saw him..he started biting the fella's legs in a ferocious manner! I was astounded and "embarrassed". This rooster is a mild-mannered GENTLEMAN.

Early yesterday evening I was doing my chicken-feeding chores and that $*&% rooster "nailed" the muscle on the lower part of my right leg! It raised a welt about an inch high and an inch in diameter. That pecker REALLY hit me hard! It was hot here, so uncharacteristically, I was wearing SHORTS !!!

I was given that rooster when he was about 6 months old. He's now about 14 months old. I figure that whoever was the original owner (not who I got him from) must have worn shorts and been MEAN to that chicken! It's either THAT or else the "bare legs" tell him that it's another rooster "challenging his territory".

I'm NOT wearing SHORTS around that rooster anymore!

Funny how they dislike certain things. A friend once had a cock that hated his red feed bucket. He had to stop using it so he could feed without being attacked. If you want to keep that rooster, you have to wear long pants.......Pop

My Father told me that he didn't get his FIRST pair of "long pants" until he was 13 years old!

Well, I'm a BUNCH older'n THAT !!!

(I hardly EVER wear SHORTS.)

That rooster "hit" me from behind. I never knew it was coming. Good thing he wasn't a rattlesnake!

My adorable gentleman of a rooster hates the color red. My renter gets along with him super well, and picks him up and cudles him... but the first day he wore shorts (he has colored tattoos all over his legs), my roo attacked! He picked him up and laughed and held him for a while to distract him, then put him down and he started all over again. It's getting annoying, but he's fine if he wears pants. Also, my rooster is a fantastic anti-smoking ambassador. He attacks people who are smoking!

I'm considering putting "rear-view mirrows" on my cowboy hat!

Gotta be careful of those sneak attacks. Last week I was putting feed in one of our coops (polish). I turned to go out and out of the blue Spike attacked me. I tried to get him off my legs but couldn't get out of the door fast enough. I grabed a fishing net and wacked at him until he backed off. He bite my leg and spurred me really good. He is 16 months old and has never done anything like that before. Now when I go in I have the net handy. He remembers it too. He leaves the coop when I go in now Crazy fool roosters. I have had the tipe of my finger broken by my white orp so I am usually very causious around roosters, but this guy took me by surprise. Micki

Yep.

Reminds me of that Peter Sellers movie where his Chinese "house-boy" was always doing a Karate "sneak-attack" to him !!! (One of those "Inspector Clouseau" movies like "The Pink Panther").

I think that actually WAS the second Pink Panther movie.

When do roosters start doing this? I have a chicken I think may be a rooster and so far no aggression at all. Runs away whenever I walk towards him and whenever the older hens approach. He's really only boss of the hen who is the same age as he is.
