our seramas are transitioning to the big chickens coop and we had them in a dog crate to get used to each other. we know it wasn't them because the dog crate was to far away from the coop and the other serama is her best friend and she'd never do that. we think it might have been a racoon try to pull her through the cage but we can't tell how deep the wound is. All we know is that it is not down to her skull.I'm not sure what animal attacked her, but how deep is the wound, and when and where did you find her like this?
If it hasn't gone too deep, then she should be able to recover. Chickens are VERY good at healing. Clean out the wound, then separate her from the other chickens, and she should be good.our seramas are transitioning to the big chickens coop and we had them in a dog crate to get used to each other. we know it wasn't them because the dog crate was to far away from the coop and the other serama is her best friend and she'd never do that. we think it might have been a racoon try to pull her through the cage but we can't tell how deep the wound is. thanks! she is already seprate from the other seramas and chickens, and we clean the wound daily. How long do you think until she can go back with the other seramas? Do you think the swollen eye will open again? If it hasn't gone too deep, then she should be able to recover. Chickens are VERY good at healing. yeah we think so too. we are so sad for her. thank you for the encouragement!Too me I know you didn't ask me but looks like she might possibly go blind in that eye again im not 100% sure, but I hope she recovers
I would put her back with the others once there is no visible flesh (the sight of blood entices chickens to peck at it). As for her eye, from what I can see, it looks unharmed. I would expect it to heal eventually, though it may be swollen for a while.thanks! she is already seprate from the other seramas and chickens, and we clean the wound daily. Chickens can live with one eye, so even if she does go blind, she will still be fineyeah we think so too. we are so sad for her. thank you for the encouragement!
