Awful first post but my older hen pecked the head of my new pullet. I removed the injured girl and now the bully is in serious time out.

Rehabbing the injured. She’s slowly starting to move around again. One eye is half open but looks swollen. The other I can’t tell if she has an eye anymore. I was hoping someone has seen this before and could give me hope. Thanks!!!

It may take a few days to find out if the eye is still intact. Usually the swollen tissue around the eye may remain swollen for a week or so. I would gently rinse the eye with saline or eye wash, and then apply either Terramycin eye ointment or plain Neosporin 2-3 times a day. Since she may not see well, offer moistened feed and cooked egg along with her water up to her beak several times a day.

Since chickens will sometimes attack a newer or younger flock member, it is best to slowly introduce them behind fencing or a crate, then supervise periods of being together. Hopefully, she will heal soon with an intact eye.
