Mineral oil works just as well, and is much less expensive. I have worked mane tangles out by hand, and a bit of snipping with a scissors can be hidden pretty well.
One of my mares gets her entire tail in one big mat every year (she's on pasture, not groomed much) and mineral oil and time, and hand work, gets it out. until the next time.
It's on my list again this spring...

I have a paint horse with a knot at the end of her mane that I just cannot get out. I don’t want to cut it though since her mane is long and natural and I don’t want to ruin it. Does anyone have Tips for helping get it out? It’s BAD. I’ve tried everything I can do with my hands, but I’ve made no progress.
Try Mane 'n Tail detangler. That stuff is magic in a bottle. I would drench the knot in that stuff, then keep working on it with my hands. If you don't want to cut all the way through it, but you feel like you absolutely cannot get it with just your hands, I would start by just cutting little strands that seem to be really tied up. If your horse has a thick mane, it should hide it. My Paint gelding has a long, thick mane that is constantly getting dreadlocks, and that's how I generally deal with it.

I use stuff for people with afros. It works amazingly and it smells like coconuts.

Sounds nice, what's the brand name?
