ATTENTION NEWBIES TO INCUBATING

Carlos,
I had said I was going to candle them, but after thinking about it, I have to do one or the other....weigh or candle. It takes about 6 or 7 minutes to weigh them. I just can't leave them out long enough to candle them all as well. Also, it will be pretty interesting to see what (if anything) the weight loss at each interval tells about the end result of each and every egg.

Good Luck Hickory, Please keep us informed. Good Luck with the hatch and the new bator!

Please keep us informed and what humidity you average on what days. Good Luck with your Hatch!:weee

Humidity is killing me. I don't think I am getting it right.

For the last two days I had it between 30-35%. And after wetting the goose eggs, it brought my humidity back up to 40%

Maybe I screwed up putting geese in with the chicks? But my goslings are growing perfectly. Maybe even a little too quickly? If that is even possible.

And I have some great embryos, and some small air sacks in the rest of the eggs. I think my sultan egg is a failure. :(

But, I am gonna keep on keeping on.

I may get some more Sultan eggs, and put them under my Big Red Hen.

I don't think I would actually spray water right on any eggs. Water trays, bowls, channels in the bottom or a sponge in a bowl in the bottom of the bator; usually work great. Temperature is much more critical than humidity. What day are you on?

Here's some info on BYC here at this link below. I've set (3) duck eggs with my Chicken eggs and will keep all eggs at 39% humidity until day 18. I'm not going to weigh them, let alone draw a line around them at air Cell heights every few days. I don't candle and I have never had an egg explode. Be careful and don't read to much on here or you'll stay up all night and worry all day. Just keep an eye on temps, humidity, and Have fun with hatch.

Today is day 5. Technically 6. But I didn't set the eggs til last Tuesday at 10pm.

Then this IS day 6 until 10pm tonight. At 10pm day 7 begins........

Ok.

But, now I am confused. I just read that the day starts 24 hours after the eggs are set.

Tomorrow will be exactly 1 week that I set them.

I will just keep it that way.

Thanks.

Instead of thinking Day 1, Day 12, such as that, think Days of Development. . You lock down after 18 Days of Development. They should hatch after 21 Days of Development.
