I have 7 or 8 skeins of Bernat Galaxy Nouveau yarn, color 53236 (green/tan...mossy green yarn, 4-5 skeins bamboospun from Hobby lobby color naturals #100 ( light/dark blue/tan /beige/brown) and the same amount of the same in Camo #101 (dark/light green/tan/brown). They are extremely soft yarns and I can not for the life of me crochet with them. I have been crocheting for more years than most people I meet are old but it seems these are more suited for knitting, and I class my knitting as 'nothing I would want to wear'. So if anyone wants them to knit some caps with I would be glad to pass them on. I could not bring myself to get rid of them because they are so soft.
I am getting ready to start my 5 weeks of radiation treatments after my simulation appointment tomorrow due to breast cancer. I am lucky and it was removed and had not spread to any lympnodes . So I do not require chemotherapy. I can not think of a better thing to do with this yarn.
Gumpsgirl,
Count me in. Last year the Breast Center at the hospital where I work was looking for homemade scarves for their patients. To keep them warm during treatment. They were hoping to get enough to maybe give a few out each week during October. Ended up receiving hundreds from all around the country. Enough for every patient in October and November as well, I think. I thought it would be a good project for my department, to work together for a common goal, so we made about 25. I did 4 myself (and I didn't know how to crochet before). I'll try teaching myself hats. If it's a failure I'll buy some.
Imp-paying it forward
I have my friend working on the knifty knitter and I found a youtube.com video and these instructions and have my first one in progress. I hope these will work. I am making a trial hat with some different yarn. The lion brand homespun really soft stuff is curly and not the greatest to start with for a beginner. LOL
Please, count me in for at least 2 for now. I will check to see if my DD can maybe do some. I have the knit hat looms, I used them to make grand kids hats last year. Which size should I use, Large 8" or Extra Large 9" do you think.
My sister says she uses the green loom for the hats. Not sure what size that is. I will be buying myself a loom this weekend so I can start the hats I want to make. I hope that answers your question!
Can someone please refer to me a couple brands of yarn? I asked my friend from around here and she really didn't know what would be good to use. I bought some Caron Simply Soft that is 80% acrylic but should I be finding some 100% cotton? Because I'm not having much luck. Can you give me some brand names to look for? That might be easier.

It really doesn't matter as long as it is soft. The being soft part is more important than anything. If you can't find cotton, go ahead and attach what type of yarn you have used (such as the acrylic) just incase anyone is allergic to it.
That was a really good question! It definitely was something that my sisters and I have never thought about.
