ATTN: American Pit Bull owners.

I couldn't resist trying to share. Roxie-fun dog, dominant dog, incredibly playful and, frankly, very tolerant. If she doesn't come when I call or do what I tell her to, my much more obedient doberman gets angry, runs back to get her and drags her to where ever it is I told them to go. A very funny pair who bring much joy to my life.

This is Roxie posing for my avatar on another site, where my user name is JoeCool but we can't post copyrighted images, which Snoopy is.

I don't have a pit but my hubby's BFF

has two. One of them, Luda, has a head like an anaconda and a bark that will make you pee your pants!! My dog, Luci kicks his butt all over the place. It's hilarious. Luda runs from her then rolls on his back, submissively, wanting to play... Then Luci struts over to him and gives him the stare, then they'll play... but ONLY after she's established dominance

Here's the great pit bull wrestler.

Some old friends of ours had a pit named Sissy. She was such a sweetheart and when their daughters were 1 & 2 ish the mom witnessed Sissy trying to nurse the babies(girls). She was always such a good momma to the girls and to her own puppies when she was bred. She was also protective of the girls and of other kids there to play...If a stranger pulled up in their yard she would position herself somewhere between the "intruder" and her kids. I never heard of her having to attack anyone though. And she never made any threatening sounds...Just stayed between the kids and that person. If she knew you really well, she would always bring you a gift(usually a stick or piece of mulch) as you were getting out of the car. We ended up getting one of her pups one time when she was accidentally bred by the neighbors hunting and bird dogs during an unexpected heat. He was the goofiest boy...He was half australian shepherd half pit. He was scared of the cattle across the fence unless our daughter was outside then he'd play the brave dog and chase the cows from the fenceline, when our son was born 4 yrs later he would lay there while our son crawled all around and on him. We really missed him when he had to go at 7 1/2yo due to severe hip problems. He had the same sweet temperament as his momma. RIP Sissy and Whiskers

can you hear me now? :

Just wanted to reiterate my previous stance on pit bulls. Our once great dog decided to start getting extremely ferrocious on our other dog. Hurt her prety badly. As a result of this we had to have her put down. I needed to get rid of her and wouldn't be able to in good concience give her to a person that may have another dog and maybe kill this one in stead of just injuries. That being said if you decide to get a pitt bull i suggest this be a 1 person dog and not to have other dogs at the same time. good luck with this.

You have to check this website out. Bad Rap is the organization that took in the "Vick " dogs that Best Friends sanctuary wouldn't take. they have great, honest information for ALL pit bull owners. www.badrap.org

I had a wonderful American Rednose Pitbull growing up. Taz was my buddy for 11 years. He was a 80lb Baby

It is how you raise them and how you counteract their natural instincts. Pitbulls are TRAINED and MADE to be vicious and blood thirsty, they are NOT born that way.

Good luck with you mom and if MOM is reading this...pitbulls can be just as loving and kind as any other breed.

The Springer doesn't surprise me. I have a 10 yr old Springer/ Border Collie that I rescued at 9 mos. Poorly bred Springers can have something called Springer Rage Syndrome. Our guy snapped, growled and guarded everything. After some training that sometimes involved the sole of my shoe and the back of his neck, he's a really good dog. He's exceptionally obedient and affectionate. I still wouldn't ever leave him alone with a small child.
