Some old friends of ours had a pit named Sissy. She was such a sweetheart and when their daughters were 1 & 2 ish the mom witnessed Sissy trying to nurse the babies(girls). She was always such a good momma to the girls and to her own puppies when she was bred. She was also protective of the girls and of other kids there to play...If a stranger pulled up in their yard she would position herself somewhere between the "intruder" and her kids. I never heard of her having to attack anyone though. And she never made any threatening sounds...Just stayed between the kids and that person. If she knew you really well, she would always bring you a gift(usually a stick or piece of mulch) as you were getting out of the car. We ended up getting one of her pups one time when she was accidentally bred by the neighbors hunting and bird dogs during an unexpected heat. He was the goofiest boy...He was half australian shepherd half pit. He was scared of the cattle across the fence unless our daughter was outside then he'd play the brave dog and chase the cows from the fenceline, when our son was born 4 yrs later he would lay there while our son crawled all around and on him. We really missed him when he had to go at 7 1/2yo due to severe hip problems. He had the same sweet temperament as his momma. RIP Sissy and Whiskers
