I even got a kiss from one. I would own one but my county law says you have to have insurance, a fence, and the dog has to be on a chain, thats all i know of that you need to own one here there could be more to it. My county sucks. I'll own one someday when i live somewhere else though.

My DGF has a pit and shucks......she is nothing but a BIG baby. She dont thinks she is a dog, she's human. That is if you ask her about it. You couldnt ask for a better dog,and good around the chickens too.I think she is more scared of them than they are of her..

Here are some new pictures of Champ. He is the sweetest dog on earth. He is constantly getting beat up by our Golden Retriever and Manchester Terrier. Everybody hates him because he looks so mean

He is such a lover!

My first on-my-own dog was a pit mix. She was about 4 months old, skinnny, beaten with a broken tail, and dumped in the parking lot at the store where my sister worked. Sis brought the pitiful trembling bundle home. Mom wouldn't let her keep her since they already had our large family dog. So when I came home from college that weekend, I took her back with me. She was the sweetest baby, even after all she went through before me. She loved all people and other animals... and between me and my roommates we had dogs, cats, rabbits, and rats.

When my first DD was born, she used to lay next to the bouncy seat. If DD cried, she would get up, make sure she was ok, lick her on her bitty bald head and lay back down. (That is not to say you should ever leave any child alone with any animal when that are that little... I was always in the room). But Lady was devoted and an angel. I still miss her

Oh my God, that is so sweet. If people just give animals a chance, they can do the most amazing things. I have heard so many stories of the family dog waking up in the middle of the night and barking at their owners to get them to follow them into the nursery to help a dying baby. There are dogs that can sense seizers, heart attacks, etc. before they come.

The most important thing you can do is socialize and train the dog. Obedience classes are great, but they are not enough. I would strongly recommend the "nothing in life is free" lifestyle for any dog, especially a large powerful one. The dog should have to obey a simple command, like sit or down, before he gets anything. Before he is fed, petted, played with or anything, he should have to follow a simple command. It always reminds him of his place in the pack and that humans are in charge. t gives the dog peace of mind because they don't have to worry about making the decisions. There is lots of information on the web about nilif. Here are a few sites.

Since most of the regulations are based upon reactions to bad situations, I'm wondering what it would take to start a positive campaign for this wonderful breed? Is there are national club that could support smaller regional clubs in the education process? We can all shout from the roof tops how wonderful the dogs are, but unless we reach the city dwellers, who have irresponsible neighbors, we will never effect a change of opinion/avoid regulation.
