I was just at Rural King this morning and talking to the woman that ordered their chicks for them and she said she was talking to Hoover Hatchery and they told her they sold real Ameraucanas and Auracanas? Any body know if this is true? Because I told her that I heard you could only get the actual breeds from breeders, did I lie to this woman? Thanks Sandy

Their website:

Americana (Notice the spelling)

"Chicks can be assorted colors, white, brown, red or black. Eggs are shades of blue, green and light brown. A 5.5 lb. mature bird. Not intended for exhibition. No color choice in chicks or eggs. "

Definitely NOT Ameraucana's

My only problem with anyone calling their ee's ameraucana is when they sell eggs. If I want ameraucana I do not want mixed color/breed chickens.....
Many people sell their eggs(mostly on ebay) as ameraucana and they are ee's.
Ameraucana has a standard, period. If it doesn't meet the standard then it can't be called an ameraucana
I would be livid if I got anything other than what I paid for, and that goes for any breed....
With that said, my ee's lay better and bigger but not as blue.......nothing wrong with ee's

Yep, its a common practice on here. Just so you know...if it meets all the other standards for an ameraucana except color then its an non standard ameraucana! They only have to breed true 50% of the time!! Unless you know that they were bred with other breeds.
This will be the only post I post on here cause they will give more flack for saying that!

What's with all the EE nonsense today?!

I have seen the other thread that got closed about the EE's and my comments should better be left unsaid though I must say this:

Do YOU know what the Standard is for an Ameraucana? Unless you know what to look for and understand the genetics of a chicken, I don't see how you would even think that. Not to mention the background/history of the bird. Do you even know the definition of "breeding true"? THAT is something described to a breed. When two parents of the same variety produce offspring with the same color pattern. If you bred an EE roo with an EE hen, what will you get? Their genetics could be hiding things that you couldn't imagine and I doubt they'll be identical to the parents. I am by no means a breeder but I do know that I have learned a lot of this site, sometimes more than what a person my age should.

Speckledhen, I agree 100% with the comments you have made.
I love my only EE. She is very friendly and I don't mind if she isn't a purebred bird. I knew that before I got her from Ideal. I even try to tell people that I don't like calling her an "Ameraucana".

The New Ameraucana Police? HA! Leave it to the professionals.

The misconception that EEs are "mutts" is unfortunate. EEs are just different from Ameraucanas, not worse, just different. As Cyn and Jody have stated, it doesn't help that many hatcheries continue to label one as the other.

Unfortunately, Ameraucana vs. EE often degrades into a "hot topic" here on BYC (and elsewhere on the Internet). There are many helpful threads here that can help you to determine which bird you have (use the search feature to find them as needed

I think the OP has received the information needed at this point.

Thank you all for your participation.
