yes it does snow and get cold in japan but these birds were not developed in japan. the main breed they were developed from came from south japan where it is quite warm. the breed of yokohama you are familear with came from europe from crossing of the onagadori with game breeds to toughen them up that is why some lines are more fragile than others and as for us we have insulated coops with heat lamps because we also have some modern game that are very delecate.
