hello i know this sounds kind of crazy but i am currently doing personal research on barred owls and one lives in my neighborhood and i've only seen it once before it was a beautiful animal and i wish to try to get a better look at it and i've seen some people catch hawks with rats mice or small birds in a cage . i have no intention of capturing this owl but to get a closer look at it and i was thinking get a feeder mouse and put it in a safe cage and put out a video camera to see if i can see it at night i hear it almost every night i assume its a male due to its low pitched call . does anyone have an experience with barred owl diet preference in case there is something better than a mouse i could attempt to use as "bait " as well as your own personal observations ? i currently don't have chickens anymore due to a red tail hawk living across the street as well as the sharp shin living be hind our house ? thank you all
