Augsburger Thread!

So if pairing 2 buttercup combs give 25% horn, 25% straight, 50% duplex/buttercomb, what if you breed buttercup/duplex and straight?

I have to wonder if these statistics are correct, we have never hatched out a horn comb and so far we have hatched about 25 chicks and in our birds we received from GFF we never had a horn comb.

These statistics are fairly accurate from my personal experience with the Augsburgers to date. The Augsburger comb is not the same as the Sicilian Buttercup comb, the physical appearance is different, and these stats don't apply to the SB - I've raised them for many years and always get the true buttercup comb in all chicks, the challenge with the true SB comb is getting one that is completely closed in the back. Never in decades have I had an SB hatch with a straight comb or a horn comb. I have photos of both breeds on my website, if anyone wants a quick and easy comparison. :)

I have some young pairs up for sale now, am taking orders for chicks and eggs, own the original German imports and a great deal of their progeny, you can't find anything better than that. :) Please do check my website in my signature block below, feel free to ask any questions you may have, having German roots myself and married to a wonderful man born in Germany in the 40's who has family in Augsburg who, strangely and coincidentally own Augsburgers, we might know just a little bit about them here. :)

Nice. I'll look at both of yours. I also found someone down near the beach. I'll be looking at them all and it might be good to get some from different sources for breeding to keep them strong. :D

When I got my Augies last fall I was short on space and put them in a pen with some half grown Silkies. They have done well. They are gentle and yet very alert. The roo is very protective of all his girls... even the little white fuzzy ones.
