Augsburger Thread!

I love my Augsburgers!!! :) :) :)

We fell in love with them enough to purchase all of the breeding stock Greenfire Farm had................including the original import group!

This is an exciting breed. The hens are indeed prolific layers of large white eggs. The birds themselves are quite beautiful with their beautiful deep black plumage! We had purchased a couple of different groups of Augsburger chicks in early spring, and it has been a lot of fun watching them grow up. Such active, attentive little babies!

We were extremely pleased when the various breeding groups arrived. VERY healthy happy birds. Despite the change in altitude, climate, and feed, all have settled in and gone back to work producing eggs. This was a pleasant surprise, as it has been our experience when bringing in adult breeder birds that they often take quite some time to adjust to a new life and get to work increasing their kind.

I hope many more American poultry lovers get to know this breed..................there isn't anything to dislike about them!

We raised most of ours from day old chicks but we acquired 2 from a friend(a pair she had raised from chicks). When we brought this pair home they were laying in less than 2 weeks. Now we have 3 out of 6 hens laying. They so far are flighty. We also have 3 younger ones that are still maturing so we will see how they go.

We have 4 hens that should start laying any day now. Ours are quite flighty. I'm hoping they become friendlier with time.
