August Egg Swap ~ Emails have been sent

Well, it made it through the night and is getting around as if it's just a few hours old but it's stronger. I'm gonna call her lucy. she has no sign of a comb at all. The other 4 are just beautiful. Two have the chipmunp stripes. The biggest one and one of the golden ones. They are all sp pretty. I can't wait till the lat one hatches. There was still live in the egg so it's probaboy gonna wait till it's due date and not pop out early. Lucy is sleeping comfortably in the fold of my shirt right now. Since she is........slower............than the others they pick on her so she is getting pampered by me. I have 2 other brooders to put her in and George may takeher under his wing. He used to be by babysitter when he was smaller. So there are 5 hatched so far out of 8 eggs. That one that was nearly white with the dark spots was dead after I candled it. I checked all around the egg and on one side it was clear. I was seeing the full side before. So two died out of 8, so far. NOt bad at all for shipped eggs. I give you credit on how you shipped them. Fantastic job.

Aww! I'm so glad! I love the name! I have a cat named Lucy also! So now we're waiting on one little chick. I think that's pretty good! But on the bad side I candeled and there is nothing in any of mine

I feel lucky that mine did so well. I'm usually the unlucky one that has to toss out eggs, or they die before they hatch. And these are so pretty. I do have a mean one. I had a talk with him and he just doens't understand that we don't allow abuse around here. I'm positive it's a cockerel and probably a RIR. It's a golden color. Very pretty but a mean little buggar. I'm hoping the September swap goes as well. The little black one is doing great, eating and drinking and cuddling with the firs 2 that hatched. The two golden ones aer in a brooder by themselves. They have attitudes.

We do have an rir roo so it probably came from him and one of our hens.

I have pictures. They don't do them justice because they are beautiful chicks. Pics taken with a camera phone.
First one is called "Chicks in a Basket"

Third hatched has a tad attitude and was isolated with #4 for the day. They seem to have learned their lesson. lol

Last but not least because there is still one egg left to hatch is Lucy. I was afraid she wasn't going to make it but she has. High five for her.

I just love them all. Even the little meanie. lol

Candled my eggs last night...all but one spangled OE has taken and is deveoloping. I normally have pretty good success past the first week, so I may get all 8 of my eggs and most of my bonus eggs to hatch! WTG RRFarms!

So far I have gotten 4 out of 6 of the serama eggs to hatch and 1 more is still hatching. 1 of the serama's came out a mix though........ I am thinking a serama/silkie mix. It has a black beak and grey legs. It definately is not a pure serama. Maybe my partner can help me out here with what the possible mix could be.

Will post pics when they dry out.

That is a puzzler! There was a silkie roo in with them a while back, but he was taken out of the pen back in early May! Other than that, there are no other birds around them, so I can't imagine what it could be. Perhaps a hidden gene from way back, because none of mine are like that? I'm pretty sure my flock is pretty pure given the two sources I've gotten them from, but I guess you never truely know.
