August Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Thanks for this, I'm candling my Marans tonight, I did it in day 5 and thought I saw one clear one and one bloodline and 4 with black dots. My candler is good and looks like those pictures

You're welcome! I always wait until a bit later to make my final decisions with Marans. Day 11 I finally tossed the clears and a couple really early quitters that matched what was was shown in the earlier images but I put back one I wasn't sure about. I'll probably wait until lockdown before I decide on that one. Marans can be tough! Like candling rocks, lol.

Yes, I didn't have a clue what was going on the first time, but I did see the air cell so that was good. I wont make any rash decision as I know I'm not experience enough.

Oh I love NN!!! Are they all white NNs? Congratulations on your adorable hatch!!!:celebrate

For the most part they were coming out white, and the legs will darken as they grow. Some have a few scattered black feather's popping up in them later when they feather in. @starri33 now own's the daddy. I still have the mother's here, but will be using a different colored Naked Neck rooster now. When they are small chick's like that, they remind me of those little bobble head's.

Here are the babies :) , moved them from the incubator to their brooder tote.. 2 eggs still in the incubator and 4 chicks out of 6, still waiting on the other two.. Not sure who's hatch or if it will be considered a collective effort since @BlueBaby started them and I finished the hatching process. There are 3 NN's and 1 full feathered.

Remember that if they hatched from my blue/green egg's a crest could start showing up on top of the head from the Crested Cream Legbar in that mix.

Well, it appears that none of the eggs were fertilized by my little frizzle and 4.5 months is likely too young to expect him to be having secret rendezvous with the hens, lol.
After candling the Marans eggs last night I had 7 infertile eggs and 2 really early quitters. 5 eggs remain, 1 looked a little questionable but I'm going to wait before deciding on it. This is the same flock I had 100% fertility & 100% hatch rate from in the spring so summer temps seem to be a prevailing factor in lower fertility and hatch rates for me. A friend just got in touch with me to hatch some more Polish chicks for her though so I'm pretty excited to have an excuse to refill my incubator. :ya:lau

two of them were out of the blue/green eggs, the other two from the cream colored ones. # 3 is one of them that hatched from the blue/green and he/she is the one that is the full feathered.

Waaaaaaaaaa on your frizzle roo.

POLISH CHICKS OMG they’re SO adorable. YAY!!!!

Hopping in here. I have 11 bielefelder eggs in the incubator due on the 20th. I've hatched ducks previously, but this is my first time with chickens.

You're ready for anything with chicks if you've only hatched ducklings!
Chickens are soooo much easier to hatch! You're not going to know what to do with yourself when they actually hatch in a timely manner. Lol
