August Hatch-A-Long

You know I was "supposed " to be done hatching end of may....

Some of my better hatches seem to happen during the summer.

Can I join? View attachment 1871434 just locked these babies down.... so many possibilities! Duck turkey and a variety of chicks.... hoping for some Nn but that was not my main goal with this hatch. See those pink eggs? Those are out of my Delaware mix pen. The last 2 I hatched out of there are on track to hit 4.5 or 5 pounds by 12 to 14 weeks!

What a colorful egg basket you have!!! I love your green and PINK eggs!!! Pink are Delaware? Are they all like that??? Best of luck in what will be an exciting hatch!

My Delaware and Delaware mix girls seem to lay pink.... I believe they are listed as laying med brown? My original Delaware girls hatched in 2016 so getting older, I got them from privet hatchery. I like their size and those gorgeous big pink eggs in winter.

Keep what you want, and sell the rest!

Now if I could figure out how to sell some folks around here dont want to talk unless you can guarantee pullets and then practically want me to give them away..

In my 12 eggs I set all the Legbars are gone. 5 nothing happened and one of my suspect ones was a definite double blood ring last night The other suspect one is looking good though. I have 5 blue or black marans with good air cells, definite veining (awesome candler) and also this one. Do I have hope for one with an air cell like this? I’m using a credit card to vent the box as it has no vents and it’s crazy high humidity here.

The few saddled air cells that I've had have all hatched fine. You may just need to keep an eye on it at hatch to make sure it doesn't get stuck.

Totally prepared for that as I had to help one of the last lot hatch and he’s awesome! I’ve been reading up all about it on a great article on here and will have my little kit all ready. Thanks for the encouragement. I knew 50/50 of shipped eggs is normal but wasn’t expecting to have lost so many by now. Dud batch I think!

I'm sorry! It can happen even with eggs that aren't shipped. There are so many factors involved when trying to hatch chicks. For example, I only have 4 Marans eggs out of 14 that have made it to the last week of incubation. Several infertile eggs and a few quitters. All from the same flock that in the spring I had 100% fertility and 100% hatch from.
I've also driven several hours to pick up eggs before so they didn't have to go through shipping and had entirely dud batches of eggs. Sometimes it's obvious what happened and others no so much.

They do tend to weed out early. Hope it’s smooth sailing from here!
