August Hatch-A-Long!

made my morning rounds this am and the 2 chicks with my broody's are well and looking strong despite a mild spraddle leg and the other chick having been stuck to mommas foot and being trampled on. I also noticed another hatchling

. So I decided while she got up to drink I'd clean out the old shells and eggs that looked bad- one egg had zipped but never made it out and the other had a large abnormal looking crack in it so I assumed it was bad too BUT it wasn't! I heard a peep from within it as I turned to walk away. We placed it back and awaiting it's arrival. I'm so glad 2 hens are sharing the duties. While one is now tending to the chicks the other is still setting on the eggs waiting to be hatched. Such good mommas. And GREAT team work! Yay me!!!

I always snuggle them too....I gather them up in a hand towel and lay them on my chest....they nap!! if its just one or two they like to get on my shoulders in my hair...and night I lay a stuffed lamb in with them and make a tent with a hand towel they climb under the towel and sleep!!

I checked on everyone a while ago and the hen on the floor is tending to all 3 chicks while the other is still tending to the eggs. I think I'm gong to give her another day or two with the hatchlings. If they don't hatch and she's still setting on them I'll take those out and place the onesI have in my bator underneath her. I like a broody hatch better than a bator hatch.

UGH!! I found another stinker today. at least it was before it did too much damage, other than I'm ill the last 2 days and that's the last thing I needed to whiff!!

I have a handful due to hatch through out this week! that makes me smile!

My hen just rejected 1 of her 4 babies I am taking it inside should a take a friend for it? Also will my broody get disturbed by me taking her not rejected baby

When I went out to mum and her chicks there were two out but I don't think she kick the second out she let it go under her so I am thinking of taking my one with almost identical twin inside

I love when a broody hatches the chicks since its so much less work for us! But I do love how tame my hand raised peeps are they always want a cuddle!

Opened up another 2 eggs. look like pics of embryos at Day 18-20. No heart beat at all. One's intestines not inside. What could have happened? On day just about 23 with 22 left in incubator.

miracle chick is in the brooder now with it older siblings but there is a hardware cloth barrier so the older ones cant pick on it. had went to see how she was doing in the bator and she wasn't in her silicone muffin mold she was out moving under the egg turner. she is half dried and fluffed i turned up the temp in the brooder for miracle since she's not fully fluffy yet...she is doing so great
