August Hatch-A-Long!

Yes, just one incubator.  It's cabinet style, with an egg turner and separate hatching tray. I left them in the egg turner overnight and one hatched.  Another one was pipping down into the egg, and drown.
So I just moved all the eggs to the hatching tray, and within a half hour another hatched.
This is only day 15, so I am still surprised with all of this!

I remember reading somewhere that if the temps are too warm they can hatch early. Likewise if the temps are just a little too cool they can hatch later. 21 days is optimal. You may have preemies...if there is such a thing in chickens?

I would love to see some pictures!

That is wild! I would guess the temp was a little higher than it said maybe?
The temp in the incubator has been consistant, and I'm certain of the day I set them because I wrote it down. It's been sweltering hot here in Mississippi, so I'm going to guess that the lady I bought them from had stored them in a hot barn or shed.

It's been wonderful, fun surprise. Today is mine and my husband's 10 year anniversary, so we feel like they came early to celebrate with us!

I bet you're right! And congratulations!!

The majority of mine were actually kept in our refrigerator - but so far I have 20 out of 22 fertile eggs that are going strong with heart beats and movement on day 16!

Some bantams hatch early, and some could have been pre-incubated. The temp can rise to 99 and cool for a couple days and the fertility be ok.
these are 1 polish 3 black orps 1 silkie and rather 2 pekin or 2 cochins im nt sure what he said lol the cohcin/pikin is the one that is moving most but there is no internal pip i just candel them and there going into lockdown thursday

HELP my broody was on 12 eggs I candled the other day and threw on out that wasn't developing today ( day 11-12) I whent out and found my hen out for her daily bath and food and stuff so I checked the eggs and one had busted all over the others :( so I took them and wiped of all the gunk with a damp rag, but I noticed I only had nine so now I'm missing an egg and I candled again can't see any movements but I noticed one of the eggs was dead so now I'm down to 8 plz tell me I did the right thing :fl

You may have had two eggs broken (12-1+11, 11left -9 remaining=2 unaccounted for). Is it possible that another hen tried to get in the nest with the broody? Could a snake have taken an egg or two?

Sorry it happened.

My 5 mystery store-bought eggs are in lockdown! I candled the 6 eggs just before putting them in. One that I was concerned about last week when I candled is dead. I will be doing an eggtopsy shortly. Lockdown is in my new Brinsea OctagoEco20. I had the temps and humidity perfect then the temps dropped when I put the eggs in. Guess I will be up late tonight to make sure it levels back out again. Don't want to lose them now!

Once these guys have hatched I will be putting my remaining one egg from my 13 week old Barred Rock cockerel and Red Sex Link hen, plus my 18 Silkie eggs from Catdance that should be arriving in the morning. I have two incubators right now so one will be used as the lockdown incubator.

Cool! I have my chick shipment arriving in the morning (pacing around like an expectant mom, LOL!), and then Batch one transfers to the hatcher on Thursday - a new shipment of eggs is due in the same day and will go in the bator. Sunday the second batch goes into the hatcher. Hopefully the first batch will just be starting to hatch and opening it once to put eggs in won't be a big deal. I will have a mister of distilled water standing by.

I really do not know what to say.................a concern for me would be the pores being closed up
causing a lack of oxygen............sorry I can't help.
good luck

Are you SURE your temp/humidity is actually reading correctly? I ask because this just happened to me and ended up being a low battery

I thought it was at 96 degrees all the sudden and adjusted, then it was 102, then 96 - I was losing my mind and it finally occurred to me to get another hygrometer in there. The original said 96 and the new one read 101! I am having excellent luck with this one http://www.walmart.com/ip/Acu-Rite-Indoor-Outdoor-Thermometer/896347 and just run the probe down into the bator through the vent hole. I find that my humidity in the bator is about 9 to 12 percent less than room humidity. I just randomly check it when I candle etc.
I have 4 that I check against each other that I also compare to 2 more. They are all exacty the same. Just checked it again today because I bought a new one for a new incubator. All three of my incubators have the same problem.. 2 I made and 1 I bought. I have 4 Acurite themometer/hygrometer from Walmart and then two other different kinds just to be sure. I leave my them inside where I can see them without opening the incubator. I just don't get it. Now I have another strange thing happe. I have 12 wyandottes in my best incubator, homemade with thermostat, fan and themometer/hygrometer. (SO it has to temp gauges at all times.) The temp is never off and the humidity 40%. I only had one egg that didn't develope. All other eggs good at 16 days, all moving. Day 18 half have stopped moving and I'm pretty sure they died. Just have that look, sinking to the bottom of the egg. Nothing has changed at all in that incubator. My other eggs in there are fine. Why would so many die at the same time but just those eggs? I still new but I read A LOT. Can't figure this one out. Thanks.
