August Hatch-A-Long!

familypendragon I'm afraid to ask but how were the chicks?
Oh its a lot of drama right now... USPS lost them, my local folks found it. It wasn't going to be in till tomorrow. I knew they'd be dead so I made arrangements to go get them myself from the sorting hub. 2 dead on arrival, 1 barfed slime and died shortly after, one alive having barfed slime shortly after arrival, one with what I first thought was pasty butt and see now was goo stuck to its naval and a slightly protruding vent. It just got hosed off with warm water in the sink sprayer. Luckily I usually don't sleep much so I should be able to keep a pretty good eye on them. The Marans and the Faverolle are super funny. They are the spunkiest for sure, chirpiest, and one of the marans keeps trying to redecorate, LOL! It likes to find the edges of the papertowels and start a game of tug-of-war to see what is underneath. Probably going to have trouble from that one, LOL! They also appear to have sent 3 extra birds which is nice except I NEED the right breeds since I got them for breeding :/ They said call Friday for a total death count. I'd like to replace them - think we figured out it was a Buttercup, Silver Laced Wyandotte, and a Delaware that we lost. BUT, don't know which sex... so.... guess I'd have to get another of each. MEANWHILE, back in the bator.... I just candled the 20 eggs from my first batch (the refrigerated ones from my mutts) and each of them has a great air cell and is moving around in there. So today will be day 18 and I will be moving them to the hatcher. I have the hatcher running now to get stable. I also candle Batch 2 which is on day 15 now. 9 shipped Welsumer eggs from bwalden on BYC and 3 of mine. All appeared to be thriving. A couple of the shipped eggs have developed the crazy saddle shaped air cells although they looked normal before. Will be sure to put those in the hatcher right with the lowest dip facing up. And the Batch 3 shipped eggs should be here tomorrow for me to pick up at the PO. Thanks for asking :)

what has the humidity been set at? Its important to what you set it at for lock down.....things will change a lot in the next few days inside those eggs your probably fine....sounds like one is internally pipped woohoo....early bird good luck
well today is lockdown i have a brinsea eco 10 incubator itdosnt tell you what the humidity is it tells you that theres a cup in there a small one and fill up half of the cup with water till lockdown then fill both last time i goit 90% hatch all these egs are alive there all wiggling ad when i candeled them i could see a beak or king but it wasnt in the air sack yet and i have stoped turning aswell

Well my question was, is it bad the egg is that porous when the others are not? I know the egg won't show development for a while.

well my little bantam that got over heated is chirping up a storm...it's not up on it's feet fully but it's improved so much I'm feeling good about it's outcome....in the mean time there are 4 other bantams pipped and 3 guineas....

my husband heard something funny in one of the incubators went to look and a guinea keet was running around in there...hatched in the egg turner! I didn't think it was due yet! I think it's one I had taken from the hen...surprise!!
