August Hatch-A-Long!

For the first time, with all my hatches, I had a stinker today. It was oozing all over my turner. It stunk. I took everything out of the bator and washed the bator, turner, plastic floor and wire mesh. I set the floor stuff out in Sun after it was clean. Now my eggs are in egg cartons in a dry bator. Tomorrow I will put the floor back in and take it to the fair where we will set it up right. What a nightmare!

I have a batch of silver laced wyandottes hatching tomorrow. I've had some issues with the temp, so who knows what will happen. My friend is coming over, we are going to watch movies on the projectoer, drink some homemade wine and have a chick hatching party.

I am so excited. I am picking Crested Cream Legbars eggs on Monday or Tuesday. And Croad Langshans are being shipped Monday. Now to find Isbar eggs...

Question- Has anyone used Star San for disinfecting? I have it for home brewing and it is food safe.

I definately want Isbars but I can't afford hers. Wheeeeew! Those ones are expensive. There's a lady on Ebay that I've heard has some really good chickens and she said she's putting more up for action at the end of the month. I'd much rather buy locally but I can't always afford it. I love retirement, I have time for chickens, but not as much money. Not complaining, very few get to retire at my age but I am limited. (Until I breed a super special chicken that people pay me thousands for. A pink spotted chicken that lays taffy eggs and can fly. Or a boneless chicken that has a cow friend. Or a chicken that can do the dishes. That might be worth more.)

OMG! I just put in my shipped Barred Rock eggs (Batch 3 of my staggered hatch!). There was one that was a little long and I was afraid maybe it was a double yolker so I checked. Nope, but it did have a suspicious spot in it. I debated putting it in or not, and decided what the heck. Well I just went to check temps and the dang thing was so tall it cracked on top as it turned and hit the hardware inside  Luckily I got it out right away before it penetrated more than just the out shell. Will have to be careful what I put there in the center.

just before they pip their little air sac they get very still and rest...then....movement, pip the air sac, egg wiggles, pips shell then maybe still again for hours then chirps pecks and zips out....your worrying way to soon
