So cute![]()
I like sunshine![]()
No doubt have to stop working on my coop to go have a look see
Great looking hatch you have
OMG they're so CUTE!!! I love the little brown guy. Here is all four of my baby chicks.
In order from left to right... Chip (breech chick), Unnamed so far Chick #3, Butterscotch, and Sunshine.
According to the wing feather method of sexing, Chip is a boy the other three are girls. I kind of feel its true because chip has a comb already so big it parts his hair on his head, the other three have tiny little combs. We will see when they grow up. I think Chip looks like Speckled Sussex babies, and the other three are looking like New Hampshire Red babies. What do you think???
I have one chick going in to lockdown tomorrow, then 15 newborn silkie babies should be arriving Friday morning, then 18 silkie eggs and 2 of my own eggs going in to lockdown on 19th. Then I am done for a while!!!
They are very big eggs and they still have the small end empty and clear on all but one. I see feet and feathers but no pip inside or out. I've read longer gestation in humans can increase IQ, EInstein was 3 weeks late. Maybe I will have genius chicks.
I read your link. Great information. Now I know what happened last time I helped out. The feet were over the head.On the late chicks - I have read that the science behind why they pip is that they begin to have too little oxygen and too much carbon dioxide which causes muscle spasm. Theoretically if you have very large eggs, good air cells, and the eggs aren't totally stuffed with chick then maybe it takes them longer to run out of oxygen?
Mine weren't actually breech but one of the other malpositions. I find this chart really helpful http://www.thepoultrysite.com/artic...-hatchery-practice-examining-the-hatch-debris
My chickens now are pretty smart. I have one that uses the doggie door when I'm not looking. She doesn't like to roost outside. If I am late putting them away I will find her in the laundry room on top of the brooder. SHe is one of my favorites and head chicken.hehe. They will all be able to figure out how topen the coop door!
