August Hatch-A-Long!

Do you ever bid on eggs you really want but hey are expensive (especially one that you have to keep raising your bid on) then when you win, you are so excited and sick realizing you have to pay for them?  I hate that part.  When I lose, I am relieved, but sad I won't be hatching the eggs.

To save me from myself lol, I always use EZSnipe to bid on eBay. That way I enter my top price and don't look back. Then EZSnipe submits my bid in the last 4-6 seconds. It not only prevents me from getting caught up in the bidding (beyond what I can afford), it also keeps others from bumping the bid up after each of my bids, so when I when I usually win for less than I would have if I sat there bidding myself.

What kind of candler do you guys have? I have a small strong LED flashlight but I can not see half of what everyone else seeings. I need to buy something else. Let me know what you have and a picture would be great. Thanks.
I bought a $20 flashlight at walmart that's 150 or 200 lumes. That's what you want to look for bigger number lumes equal brighter light.
Next you want to concentrate that beam. I've heard of lining paper tubes with aluminum foil to help. right now, I have no foil and I just grabbed a ribbon spool (incubator is in my craft room and I'm a cardmaker and scrapbooker) so I could make the beam smaller than the egg.

I had 15 of 21 hatch. 6 left are doing nothing. Here is the first 13, the last 2 had to assist and they are still fluffing! 3 partridge, 2 porcelain, 1 paint, 1 blue/splash and 8 white! All have 5 toes! LOL
Oh how cute!
After these guys and girls grow up you can just use them as broodies and won't have all the headaches of electrical incubation and brooding. :)

Ok, so I can't remember what page it was on, but when feather sexing chicks, is it that the pullets have staggered feathers and cockerels have straight feathers, or vice versa? Checked my first 3 little ones, so was wondering, THANKS!

Looks like 4 out 5 this hatch. Had to open bator and noticed #5 had pipped on wrong end and died. Now my DW is telling me to but the bator away lol hmm

isn't that just certain birds that are genetically altered? they have to have that gene hatcheries used it so they could dispose of roos
It is a cross of slow feathering and fast feathering birds...................Only true for certain breeds...............
I think there is a list available by asking in search.
I know it works on Wyandottes..........Sure wish it worked for all.....
It is natural not altered......
Hope tis helps..=)

It's the loosing that keeps me from becoming poor. WHere do I find EZsnipe? I'm going to have to build more incubators. I have a cabinet I was thinking about converting...

Oh, I know earlier in this thread or maybe in the July thread we were talking about looking at how the pin feathers on the wings of 1 day old chicks came in, and that if the primes and seconds were even, then it was male, and if the primes and seconds were staggered/different, then it was a female (or vice versa). Will just have to do a search, lol.
