August Hatch-A-Long!

oh did I post that to you? I meant it for a person with detached air cells in some shipped eggs...the chicken lady...remembered and I was just saying I remember reading that too... I curious about your situation....I'm sure I read at some point that it's minerals missing in the parents...I tried researching but didn't come up with much...then you know how it goes you start looking things up and end up reading...good stuff...but not what you originally were looking for ! lol

It was familypendragon who I was meaning to reply to about detached and saddle air cells.

Love all the new babies!!

My beloved Blue Breda eggs came today. I set them on the counter and have been having a staring contest with them all day. I gave them a thorough talking to about what their job is.

I posted on another thread too because I want some hand holding for these, LOL!

HERE are my precious Blue Breda shipped eggs. They arrived at my house at 7:20 AM with none broken and have set big end up in an open bottom egg carton for about 15 hours. I was not crazy about the packing job (which I shared with the seller). It was the same as my Barred Rock which so far appear to have only 3 of 14 developing :/ Each egg was carefully wrapped in bubble wrap and paper towel, but they were floating loose in cut newspaper and I guess due to weight distribution they pretty much all had settled with the big end (air cell) down inside the box. I just candled the 18 eggs (appreciate the many extras!) and of the 18 there are three with no air cell that I can detect so don't know if it is scrambled or ?? 6 have detached air cells that form large saddles - some all the way down to the other end of the egg. 1 has a completely rolling air cell. And 8 appear to be pretty good from the looks of it. So what do I do with them? Do I set them all and see what happens by day 10 - or am I asking for another disastrous hatch if I set any but the 8 good looking ones. Step by step - advise me please.

1000

I would personally give them a chance, but I have less hatch experience than you think. In my shipped SFH eggs a few had wonky air cells, a couple really bad, but I put them all in. Most of them looked good at day 7, one looked clear, but left it to be sure. Monday I will candle again (day 14) and post about what I see. You marked them, so what's the harm? Best if luck! Bredas are gorgeous!

Carolina I just had some results searching "death in shell" it does talk about nutrition...

I've read that too. If it is nutritional then there may be nothing I can do. All I can do is put the stuff out for her, but if she won't eat it...... The rest of my flock apparently is, just not her if hers are the only ones doing this.

Quote: you can put liquid baby vitamins in the water! I put vitamins in the water and electrolytes just to help with the heat...I hope you get at least one from her...I have a special girl her sister was taken by a raccoon so she's the only one of her breed out there well all season I've been incubating bought eggs to add certain special breeds but I forgot to incubate some of hers...so I finally remembered and a few days ago one of hers hatched...I have two more in the incubator! so I know how you want one of your girls babies! my little girl was sold to me as a "dark" I assumed dark brahma but she doesn't have feathered legs and feet...she looks like a black and copper maran but she lays almost white eggs! ??

woohoo I candled my pea egg due Thurs...finally saw movement! and there is chirps coming from the delivery incubator where the ducks are! went into lock down with 4 tiny but I was only pretty sure about 2 of those and 2 chocolate bibbed those are probable!! getting the excited feeling!! can't wait to meet my new babies!
