August Hatch-A-Long!

I just had to cull a stinker out of the bator. I put it in a ziploc bag and cracked it to see what was going on. There was black stuff all in the yolk. I'm assuming that it was some sort of bacteria. I'm praying that it didn't infect the remaining 11 eggs. Though, of those 11, I'm pretty sure three of them are not going to do anything. Two of those are the Ameracauna eggs. :(

I'm on day 10 now, so I'm getting a lot of darker shadows when I candle. Most of them I can still make out veins on some areas of the eggs.

I have four set aside for hatching after these are done. My Black Laced Red Wyandotte has just started laying. She's in with my Blue Copper Splash Marans rooster. Can't wait to see what kind of cute little boogers come out of that mating! Hopefully she will continue to give me an egg a day until the bator is empty. Then I'll have another 15 or so to hatch! The Sept. hatch will probably be my last of the year.

We are due the same day. I just candled mine and tossed 10 of them. Most were not fertile or just did not develop, a few had started but had a blood ring, and one looked like it was just scrambled. But the remaining 10 were looking good. 8 are Catdance Silkies and two are my home growns. I am taking a break after this batch is down.

Good luck with your remaining 11!

Day 16... and ecstatic to report all 10 of my little angels are alive & swimming. I think one waved at me.

That's Awesome! :)

This is my blue, 1 week old today!
What color is the yellow one? I see its yellow, lol, but what is the color called when its grown into its real color? I have several of that color in my assortment of day old chicks. Also have some that are a butterscotch color, spotted grey, spotted tan, black, and that blue color too. They are soooooo tiny compared to my 6 day old regular chickens! I love their little poofy heads.

Woo hoo! We get to go through hatching together. It's nice not to be the only one. This is my second hatch. I joined the July hatch and have 4 beautiful EEs out of the 15 I set. I didn't think any of them were going to do anything but I was surprised!

I had a couple of scrambled I had to toss earlier in the week. I still have one that the air sac is on the side of the stinking egg. It's developing but if it makes it to lockdown, I'm sure it'll be a full assist.

Good luck with yours as well. Can't wait until the 21st gets here!!

That is my baby daughters 29th birthday too!

I hope so too. Enough sadness already. I have 10 little eggs in the bator due on 21st then I am done! At least until next spring, then we will see. How about everyone else, who still has their bator running and will you be doing more after this batch are done?

yep found a group full of blue and green, olive eggs which I know isnt older than 6 or 7 days Because I looked in there about then. Though the hens were hiding them in the hay stack (this hay has graps between the bales) figure they were going in there. Boy was I surprized when I peeped in that nest box. Of course they will be barn yard mutts bred to 1 of the 3 roosters. Turned them loose together last weeks. 13 eggs so I added 11 leghorn pure breds. but they should hatch in August.
31th.
then I have cochins bantams and turkeys (7) silver penciled plymouth rocks and more EEs and leghorns.
My EEs hatch 60 % roosters
I just can't spot hatching

Sounds like your hens are helping you :)

I try to spot than more good eggs show up.
May get some more legbars eggs for shipping only at the end of this month. paid a lot for them the lady said she'd ship me some at the end of hatching season (does it end?) she said August or September. I just love hose chickens.....So I those show up I'll hatch them even if they have to stay in the house all winter.....LOL
My 4 moth old Black copper marans choked to death on some plastic today. That is a first. Found him laying out there. Got to looking and he had plaster netting in his throat . that was awful. he was going tobe a beautiful bird....
