August Hatch-A-Long!

roosters don't usually have problems with each other when there is plenty of space and hens to go around....even when mine tussle it's not a hurtful type of confrontation. yours free range on that much property? I keep mine fenced in 1/3 of an acre

I have about 1/6 acre in my back yard. I would like at least 5 because I want goats, low line cows, etc.. Ok, time to get crackin' on that coop.

My hens chicks are going to hatch in 2 days! Saturday is hatch day!!!! I cant wait!

Me too--Happy hatching!

Luna Raine, Wanted to write to tell you your I.D. icon is soo funny! I tried to copy it to use somewhere. I am sitting here reading as much as I can so that I can handle my chicks right. this is first incubation, and so far so good. I'm glad to see I'm not the only nervous one. However I won't be home on the 21st day! My work schedule wasn't posted for several days after my start day. Well, I'll write more as I join the fun. AHH, I see it posted right to the site, so GREAT! I'm soo glad to see everyone here! My 'due date' is August 20th ( notice it is a full moon, wow! that aught to help...if they don't hatch early.) I have to work out of state, 2 hrs away, on Mon. and come back that evening.!!! My hubby works in town, but will be too tired to help, so they are on their own till Mon. night! Wish I had a long recording video camera! Anyone else's due Aug.20th? Good luck to all of us, Diann/Nashonii
Thank you! I someone emailed mevthis pic a last year. Maybe your hatch will happen when you get home from work. Wouldn't that be nice. I am a complete nervous reck. I don't know how some people are doing multiple staggered hatchings. Looking forward to hearing of your experience. :)

Ummm, welll if you are just locking down- well, no, because a few .1 or .2 degrees won't hurt the chick, make sure their is plenty of moisture in the incubator so chicks don't stick to the shell.
I highly doubt that was because of you, it sounds that one is highly disformed- don't buy Maran eggs from that place again. I think it is genetics, but how many eggs total did you hatch with flock eggs?

I set 32 of my/my MIL's eggs and all but the 14 were clears, I had gotten a new roo (to replace my last 2) and he obviously couldn't cover 50 hens.
